School rewards its latest ‘academic leaders’ with Honorary Scholarships
A number of Tonbridge boys have been rewarded for their outstanding work by receiving prestigious Honorary Academic Scholarships.
In ceremonies during the Michaelmas Term, boys were presented with their scholarship certificates by James Priory, the School’s Headmaster, and Mark Weatheritt, Deputy Head Academic.
The largest group, of 33 students, received Post GCSE Honorary Academic Scholarships, which recognises the achievement of those who did not previously hold awards but who performed superbly across the curriculum in their GCSE examinations this summer.
Honorary Academic Scholarships were also awarded to a group of five boys, new to Tonbridge, who performed outstandingly in their Sixth Form entrance assessments; and to a group of six boys from the Upper Sixth, who were not already scholars but who excelled in their studies over the past year and achieved highly impressive results in their Lower Sixth examinations.
All three groups will also be awarded prizes at an end-of-term Presentation Assembly.
Mr Priory offered the boys his warmest congratulations, adding that the conferment of an Honorary Academic Scholarship was a recognition from the School that each of them had set impressive standards. “These awards are given not simply for gaining excellent grades, but for demonstrating intellectual curiosity and a first-class approach to learning, as well as for contributing a great deal to the academic life of the School.
“I see before me highly talented students with great potential, and I look forward to the role you will play, as academic leaders, in further enriching the learning experience for everyone in the School.”
