Sixth Former Alex takes part in debating championships with Team England
Alex Chan (PH4) competed as a member of Team England at the Vietnam World Schools Debating Championships (WSDC).
The event took place in Hanoi in July and was the first in-person WSDC since 2019.
A total of 64 teams took part in the event, with Alex being one of just five students representing Team England.
After a fantastic run during the inrounds, the team finished with six wins from eight, and won 18 of 24 ballots, progressing to the next stage before narrowly losing to Malaysia in the octofinals.
Alex, a member of the School’s Debating Society, said: “It was a really good opportunity for me to learn about niche topics and broaden my understanding of the world.
“Face-to-face debating is much more exciting than online debating, as we can meet debaters from nations all around the world. We all got to know each other a little more through a multitude of socials such as Vietnam Night and the break night party.”
Well done to Alex and his teammates (pictured above and below) for some excellent performances in this highly regarded contest.
