Sailing Club boys put in a strong showing at RS Feva World Championships

Sixteen members of the School’s Sailing Club competed in Italy this summer in the RS Feva World Championships.

As the RS Feva campaign team, the boys had trained all year and competed in several UK competitions in preparation for this prestigious international event.

In July, more than 200 teams from around the world descended on Follonica, in Tuscany, to compete for their place in the world standings.

Jonny Moss, The School’s Head of Sailing, said: “Teams were met by unseasonably strong winds for the first few days, leading to some exciting and challenging racing. The fleet splits were decided within the first two days, with our teams all competing within the bronze fleet.

“The standard of racing was fierce, but our boys performed strongly and had good results all round. I am incredibly proud of what they achieved.”

After five tough days of racing, George Curtis (PH3) and Benji Bryden (PH3) finished as the School’s top team in the RS Feva, earning a bronze medal within their fleet.

Sailing is an increasingly popular sport at the School, with training and events taking place in all terms. The New Beacon Sailing programme also gives Tonbridge boys the opportunity to share their skills and help coach younger pupils.
