Novi Drama Company show puts students’ stage skills to the test
Keen and talented performers came together to form a Novi Drama Company at the School this term.
Under the expert guidance of Francesca Bailey, the Drama Department’s Director in Residence, a total of 33 students, including seven girls from neighbouring schools, have been acquiring skills in improvisation, devising, poetry, stage combat and comedy.
The students’ hard work culminated in two enjoyable evenings on Monday 4 and Tuesday 5 December, with their end-of-term show performed to parents, friends, staff and other students.
The young cast confidently presented a repertoire of sketches, including a skilfully performed adaptation of Abbot and Costello’s iconic sketch, Who’s on First?
Ms Bailey said: “The diversity of their performances extended beyond scripted material, with students crafting their own scenes. As the audience laughed at their jokes, it was clear that all the students derived immense joy from the experience.”
The Novi Drama Company ran for just the Michaelmas Term, with First Years now encouraged to audition for next term’s Junior Play.
