Culinary prowess on display as students do annual battle in ‘Marshterchef’
Students from Tonbridge and The Marsh Academy met for a culinary showdown in ‘Marshterchef’, the annual cookery competition between the partner schools.
Hosted by Becky Lee, Subject Lead for Food & Nutrition at The Marsh Academy, the event not only showcased the students’ culinary and creative skills but also highlighted the importance of teamwork, time management and effective communication in the kitchen.
In this year’s contest, which took place in Tonbridge’s Eliza Acton Cookery Classroom on Wednesday 17 January, two dozen students were set the task of creating a delightful curry that would tantalise the taste buds.
Mrs Lee guided the participants through the intricacies of working with complex spices, turning the event into a true learning experience.
Chris Morgan, Director of Sport at Tonbridge, is among the organisers and judges of Marshterchef. He said: “The standard of the competition was exceptional, showcasing the dedication and hard work of all involved. Participants from both schools demonstrated their ability to blend flavours and create mouth-watering curries, leaving the judges impressed.
“Each dish reflected the students’ commitment to mastering the art of cooking, proving their ability to adapt and innovate with ingredients. Judges agreed that both Marsh and Tonbridge students had produced meals to be proud of.”
James Fisher, Tonbridge’s Deputy Head Co-Curricular, added: “Our annual competition not only celebrates the joy of cooking but also reinforces other lessons, of working together and supporting one another, that extend beyond the kitchen.”
