1st XI and U14As hockey sides impress with recent form

The School’s 1st XI has been performing strongly in the England Hockey Tier 1 competition. The side’s matches included a recent win against Reed’s School, achieved thanks to a goal from George Glen (SH5) and a man-of-the-match performance from Seb Stevenson (HS3).

Alex Salmon, Hockey Coach, said: “The competition has been tough but Tonbridge has competed well in all fixtures, with lessons learned and much to be positive about.”

The 1st XI also performed strongly in the annual Kent competition, the Frank Mason Trophy.

Tonbridge won its group convincingly, scoring 7 goals in the process, including a 4-0 win, before coming through both the quarter- and semi-finals 1-0 with controlled and disciplined performances.

The side lost the final, conceding a late Langley Park winner from a penalty corner. Alex added: “The boys, though disappointed, showed great maturity and teamwork, creating opportunities that, unfortunately, they couldn’t put away.”

The U14A side competed in its first competition, the England Hockey Tier 2 County Cup, scoring 17 goals and conceding only one as it won its group and earned a place in the next round of the competition. Leading scorers were Seb Gait (Sc1) and Seb Bullock (OH1), with four goals apiece. This side will now be competing in the Regionals, representing Kent.
