Tonbridge Excels in Senior Maths Challenge with Four Perfect Scores

Tonbridge School has achieved outstanding results in the annual Senior Mathematical Challenge.

Around 80,000 candidates from 2,000 schools took part in the challenge, which sets multiple-choice questions and is mostly aimed at A-level students. The top 66% of students are awarded Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates in the ration 3:2:1.

In total, Tonbridge received 83 Gold, 61 Silver and 46 Bronze awards, with four pupils achieving full marks.

Nineteen students will now compete in the British Olympiad Round 1, which sets even harder questions to the 1,000 best performers from the Senior Mathematical Challenge.

A further 64 pupils will take part in the Senior Kangaroo, an advanced multi-choice, Europe-wide paper, for those who narrowly missed qualifying for the Olympiad stage.

They are a testament to the boys’ enthusiasm for mathematical problem solving and the expert guidance of their teachers. My sincere thanks to Mr Katz for running the event, comprising over a quarter of the school’s student body, so smoothly.”
