Tonbridge and Benenden Students Lead PSHE Event
Tonbridge and Benenden Prefects came together for the first event of Tonbridge School’s Pastoral Education Series, delivering an interactive PSHE session for the Second Year students of both schools. The event, which was the result of weeks of planning and collaboration, was split into two sessions with a broad focus on ‘Staying Safe at Parties and on Social Media’.
The first session tackled the world of social media, and the hidden dynamics of algorithms designed to exacerbate anger and deepen polarisation. Groups discussed how the platform played a role in creating unrealistic expectations, not only in appearance, but also of what to expect from a school social event. The second session shifted the focus and investigated how to stay safe at parties and festivals outside of school.
The evening concluded with a Q&A session in the theatre, where the respective Heads of School from Tonbridge and Benenden answered a range of pre-selected questions, ranging from “advice we wished to tell our younger selves” to revealing, live, their daily screen time.
Head of School, Ethan Glucina said: “The feedback so far has been overwhelmingly positive. Many of the second years appreciated the open and supportive environment fostered during the evening, which allowed them to voice their perspectives, share their experiences, and learn from one another. The Prefects’ leadership shone throughout, and I am really proud of how both teams delivered the sessions with confidence and flair.”
