Smythe House claim House Athletics Competition

In this year’s House Athletics Competition, Smythe House gained 439 points and the largest winning margin in over a decade.

Their success was built on consistency across all age groups, finishing first in both the Junior and Senior divisions, while also securing third place among the Inters. The Senior team was particularly impressive, winning six of the fifteen events in their category. This all-round strength translated into a remarkable trophy haul, with Smythe taking home thirteen of the twenty-one trophies available – a clear demonstration of their ability.

The remaining eight trophies were divided among the other houses. Oakeshott, Parkside, and Welldon House each collected two, while School House and Cowdrey House claimed one trophy each.

Highlights included:

  • Jude (SH5) emerged as Victor Ludorum, winning the High Hurdles, 400m, and High Jump. George (WH3) of Welldon was named Best Intermediate Athlete after claiming victory in the 200m, Triple Jump, and High Jump.
  • In the Junior category, Sebby (SH1) stood out with his wins in the Triple Jump, High Jump, and Javelin.
  • One of the day’s most eye-catching moments came from Jack (WH4), who produced the best individual performance in the Senior Javelin with a throw of 47.71m. Although short of his own school record of 53.73m, it was a standout effort that impressed spectators and judges alike.
  • Welldon House held on to their title in the Senior tug-of-war, whilst School House claimed victory in the Junior tug-of-war.
