Record GCSE results
A remarkable 47 per cent of results were awarded a 9, the highest grade possible; 75 per cent of grades were 9 and 8 (equivalent to A*), and 92% of grades were 9-7 (equivalent to A*/A). In a substantial improvement on last year, three quarters of the year group (119) achieved nine or more 9-7 grades.
The average grade for the cohort for most subjects was more than an 8, with particularly strong results in STEM subjects, English and Art. This is a second week of celebration for our Art Department, as Tonbridge boys have scored among the highest in the country for their respective GCSE and A Level assessments. You can read more about last week’s stellar A Level results here.
James Priory, Headmaster, congratulated the Third Year cohort: “I am immensely pleased to see our pupils’ dedication and perseverance reflected in such an impressive set of GCSE results. I also extend my sincere thanks and congratulations to our staff for the unwavering support and guidance they have provided. We look forward to welcoming the boys back to embark on their Sixth Form studies.”

Joining Sixth Form at Tonbridge
Our innovative Sixth Form curriculum has been praised as a significant strength by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI, 2024), along with our community engagement programme, which was commended for its contribution to the boys’ personal development. In 2025, the value of Tonbridge School’s Sixth Form was also recognised by being a finalist in Muddy Stilletos’ Awesome Sixth Form category. Furthermore, the School has been shortlisted for Independent School of the Year in 2025 (awaiting outcome) in recognition of its boarding and careers provision, as well as its educational partnerships.
The Good Schools Guide 2025 endorsed Tonbridge for offering “intellectual stimulation at every turn, with sky-high academic standards” and providing, “an inspiring, ambitious, balanced education… anchored by life-enhancing skills, learning and friendships”.
The result is that 95 per cent of boys progress to their first-choice university, including global and US top tier universities, Oxbridge and the Russell Group.
Our next Sixth Form open day is on 13 September. Find out more and register here.
