Tonbridge School recognised for excellence in university and career guidance
The Tonbridge School community is celebrating being selected as a finalist in the Student Careers Programme category of this year’s Independent School of the Year Awards.
This recognition highlights the strength of our Global Futures provision and the outstanding, personal support we offer every boy as he plans for life beyond school.
Our Global Futures Department sits in the middle of the school and is a vibrant hub where students can drop in for informal chats or arrange one-to-one guidance. The award recognises new initiatives such as the introduction of four new student-led careers societies Law, Journalism, Entrepreneurship, and Model UN. Our Lower Sixth Next Steps Fair brought together over 25 universities, apprenticeship providers and gap year organisations, and welcomed more than 300 visitors from local schools.
The impact of the Department is clear with 96% of boys securing a place at their chosen university, with 15% heading to Oxbridge and many others achieving places at world-leading institutions including Columbia, Brown, UCLA and Toronto. Our support continues long after results day, with tailored advice available to alumni up to the age of 25 and a thriving network of mentors ready to help them take their first steps into the workplace.
Ruth Davis, Head of Global Futures, said: “What makes our careers and post-school support programme truly special is the personal and tailored approach we offer every single student. Our team can tell you not just where each student wants to go, but why, and how we’re helping them get there. It’s about fostering belief, resilience and curiosity, so that every boy leaves Tonbridge future-ready and empowered.”
