Exploring a career in Law
The Global Futures team facilitates an extensive range of careers evenings focused on popular pathways including Law, Medicine, Engineering, Finance and Civil Service.
Kicking off the new programme last night was Law, with boys able to listen to OTs and a parent talk about their own experience.
Zack Clemitson (CH 2016–21), shared the process of applying for solicitor training schemes, talking us through his own success in securing a contract with Wilkie, Farr & Gallagher LLP.
Current parent Anna Mills, Global Co-Chair of DLA Piper’s International Arbitration practice, delivered an in-depth talk on her experience in construction and engineering disputes, and gave us some insights into the interview process in which she plays a part for new graduate recruits.
Old Tonbridgian Manoj Sachdeva (FH & WW 1982–87), took pupils on a journey through his career in human rights, criminal, and administrative law. He shared details of his time serving with the United Nations in Bosnia and Herzegovina as a human rights lawyer, as a trial lawyer for the International Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, and later for the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The evening ended with a lively Q&A and the message was positive for those hoping to follow in the panel’s footsteps, with a combination of academic ability, hard work and curiosity, being the key to success.
