Information evening: careers in Medicine

The Global Futures team facilitates an extensive range of careers evenings focused on popular pathways, including Law, Medicine, Engineering, Finance, and Civil Service.

Speakers included:

Dr James Evans (Parent)
A local GP for 18 years, Dr Evans qualified from Barts & The London before working in London, Australia, and along the South Coast. Now settled locally with his wife Sarah, a Breast Surgeon, and their three sons, he will share insights into the rewards and challenges of being a GP today.

Dr Luke Purwar (SH 2007–12)
After qualifying from UCL Medical School in 2019, Dr Purwar began his career at Royal Surrey County Hospital and completed training with University Hospitals Sussex. Now pursuing an MSc in Mental Health, Ethics and Law at King’s College London, he will discuss his path to psychiatry and what the role involves.

Mr Christopher James (Parent)
Mr James is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in hand and wrist conditions, practising across the South East. A graduate of the University of London, he trained at King’s College and Guy’s and St Thomas’, before completing an Upper Limb Fellowship in Brisbane, Australia. He will talk about his experiences in the NHS, private practice, and abroad.

The evening ended with a Q&A, and the message was positive for those hoping to follow in the panel’s footsteps, with a combination of academic ability, hard work, and curiosity being the key to success.
