From Tonbridge to Oxbridge: Tonbridge celebrates this year’s offers

Upper Sixth students at Tonbridge are celebrating an excellent set of university offers so far this year, reflecting both the academic ambition and School’s commitment to helping each boy find the course and university that best suits him. Our 160 applicants have received over 470 offers from universities to date.

Places at Oxford or Cambridge have been offered to 16% of the year’s cohort, with 4 out of 5 Cambridge applicants, and over 70% of Oxford applicants, invited to interview. Success at interview was also significantly higher than the national average, with 60% of those interviewed being offered places at Oxford, in contrast to the 40% national average.

Students have been successful across a broad range of disciplines, spanning the humanities, sciences and professional pathways. Offers this year include courses such as Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, Natural Sciences, Medicine, History, Classics, Chemistry, Earth Sciences and Modern & Medieval Languages.

James Priory, Head said:

“I am immensely proud of all our students. To see such a strong set of Oxbridge offers again this year is exciting and speaks volumes about our students’ intellectual curiosity, commitment and ambition.”

He added: “Our students benefit from highly personalised guidance throughout the application process, and I am grateful to our Global Futures Department for the expertise and dedication they bring to supporting each applicant. Our Sixth Form Curriculum continues to develop the independence, depth of thinking and confidence required by the world’s most selective universities, and we are delighted to see this reflected in such excellent offers this year.”

While Oxbridge offers remain a significant milestone for those who pursue them, they represent only one part of a much broader picture of success. Tonbridge students continue to progress to an exceptional range of universities in the UK and overseas, including leading institutions in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia, reflecting the increasingly global nature of higher education pathways. From the US early decision round, 20 offers have been secured from a range of US colleges, including Brown, Yale, Princeton, Villanova, Tufts and USC. Offers from IE Madrid, McGill and Toronto in Canada and universities in Hong Kong and Australia underline a strong international profile, with students heading to a wide range of QS Top 100 universities around the world.

The combination of Oxbridge and UK offers and early International successes points to another strong year for Tonbridge. With outcomes across the world and in such a wide array of subjects, these achievements reflect sustained hard work by students. Importantly, these outcomes reflect our belief that there is no single pathway that defines success. Our priority is to support each boy in finding a course and university where he will thrive, and it is deeply rewarding to see that philosophy reflected so clearly in this year’s offers.
