English Department hosts Shakespeare Revision Day
The annual Shakespeare Revision Day, hosted by the English Department, welcomed both Upper and Lower Sixth students from local state and independent schools to participate in a range of sessions and seminars. The event aims to extend attendees’ knowledge of Shakespearean studies, while also providing focused preparation on set texts ahead of their forthcoming examinations.
This year, two lectures were delivered in the EM Forster Theatre. The first was presented by Head of English, Nick Waywell, on ‘Shakespeare and His Contexts’, followed by Natalie Greenwood, who teaches at Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Girls. She delivered a lecture entitled ‘A little more than kin, and less than kind: natural and unnatural bodies in Shakespeare’s tragedies’.
Following the talks, students had the opportunity to watch selected scenes from Hamlet, Othello, Twelfth Night and King Lear. These dramatic interpretations brought key moments vividly to life, reinforcing the themes and character dynamics explored earlier in the day’s lectures.
The day concluded with breakout sessions in Dry Hill House, home to the School’s English Department. These seminars provided students with the opportunity to engage more closely with specific texts, ask questions and consolidate their understanding in preparation for their examinations.
