Gold and Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards
Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
Over the Easter break pupils in the Third Year completed the qualifying expedition for their Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
The three-day expedition required them to navigate across the South Downs, beginning in Partridge Green via Steyning, and concluded in Pyecombe.
A notable point of the expedition was the ascent to Devil’s Dyke which consists of the UK’s longest, deepest, and widest dry valley, formed by glacial erosion in the Ice Age.
The completion of the expedition marks an important stage in the participants’ progress towards achieving their Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and we wish them luck as they complete the remaining components of their award over the next term.
Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s practise
Over the weekend, a group of boys completed their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award practice expedition along the River Medway. They followed the Medway Trail, covering a distance of over 60 miles as part of their preparation.
The programme also included a day at Bewl Water, where the boys developed practical water-based skills. They worked collaboratively to construct rafts and practised sailing using canoes, before concluding with a session on a large stand-up paddleboard.
