Chapel Choir performs at St Albans Cathedral
The Chapel Choir travelled to St Albans Cathedral to sing Evensong, standing in for the Cathedral Choir and continuing the centuries old tradition of singing the daily office. The choir performed the ‘Magnificat and Nunc dimittis in D’ by Herbert Brewer, a former organist of the School, and SS Wesley’s anthem ‘Blessed be the God and Father’, alongside the psalm, hymn and responses set for the day.
Choirmaster Julian Thomas said, “I was delighted with the boys’ commitment and enthusiasm in singing Evensong at St Albans. They adapted very well to this glorious building. Singing a familiar service in a different context, with a new acoustic, organ and layout, is an important educational experience, and they rose to the challenge admirably. We last sang there in 2018, and the Cathedral clergy warmly encouraged us not to leave it so long before we return.”
