From Tonbridge to the Ivy League: Tonbridge celebrates exceptional global university offers
Upper Sixth boys at Tonbridge are celebrating an outstanding year of international university offers, with success across the USA and globally. Boys have secured offers from a wide range of highly selective universities, reflecting both the academic ambition of the cohort and our commitment to helping each boy find the course and university that best suits him.
This year has seen exceptional success in North America. Twenty-eight boys applied to universities in the USA and have received 94 unconditional offers, including 11 from Ivy League colleges. Offers have come from some of the most selective universities in the United States, including Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Brown, Columbia and the University of Pennsylvania, alongside Duke, Rice, Tufts, Swarthmore, Williams, UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC San Diego, USC, Michigan, NYU, Notre Dame, Villanova and Washington University in St Louis.
Alongside continued success in the USA, boys have also received offers from leading universities across the UK, Canada, Europe, Asia and Australia. In the UK alone, boys secured 664 offers from top institutions including Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, LSE, UCL, KCL, Bath, Bristol, Durham, Edinburgh and St Andrews. International offers included Toronto, McGill and UBC in Canada; Monash and Griffith in Australia; Erasmus Rotterdam, IE Madrid and BI Norwegian Business School in Europe; and Duke Kunshan University in China. One boy was also awarded the prestigious Lester B Pearson Scholarship at the University of Toronto.
Overall, Tonbridge boys have secured 69 offers from QS Top 10 universities globally and 244 offers from QS Top 50 institutions worldwide, underlining the exceptional calibre and international breadth of destinations achieved this year. These outcomes reflect a growing trend towards international applications among Tonbridge boys. Boys are increasingly seeking universities and courses that align with their long-term ambitions, interests and aspirations.
This approach sits at the heart of THINK 25, our strategic vision for future-proofing our students, which encourages boys to look beyond university admissions and consider who they want to become at 25 and beyond. The focus is not simply on destinations at 18, but on developing the adaptability and confidence needed to thrive in a rapidly changing global landscape.
Ruth Davis, Director of Global Futures, said, “The international university landscape is more competitive than ever, particularly in the USA, where entry to the most selective institutions is extraordinarily demanding. We are equally proud of the breadth of opportunities secured across the world, reflecting the individuality of each boy’s aspirations and the diverse range of courses, universities and pathways they are pursuing.”
While Ivy League offers represent significant milestones, they form part of a much broader picture of success. Our priority remains supporting each boy to find the university and course where he will flourish academically, professionally and personally. This year’s outcomes reflect not only outstanding academic achievement, but also the confidence, ambition and an increasingly global outlook.
