Piano masterclass and concert with James Kirby
Six music scholars took part in a piano masterclass with James Kirby, pianist and piano professor at the Royal Welsh College of Music, Royal Holloway, University of London, and Eton College. The boys confidently shared ideas, responded to Mr Kirby’s suggestions and impressed him with their playing, before the session concluded with performances of Schumann’s Arabesque and a Wagner/Liszt transcription.
Later that day, most of the masterclass participants performed in a piano concert in the Recital Room, alongside other talented pianists from Years 1-4. A sizeable audience of pupils, parents, staff and members of the local community enjoyed a varied programme ranging from JS Bach to Lewis Capaldi. It was particularly pleasing to see many of the boys incorporating suggestions from the masterclass into their later performances.
