Student earns place on Team GB for International Economics Olympiad
Four students from the School: Alexander (WW4), Matthew (FH4), David (JH4) and Robert (JH4), recently travelled to the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London to compete in the national final of the UK Economics Olympiad.
Reaching the final itself was a remarkable achievement. The students placed among the top 3% of more than 4,000 entrants from across the country, having progressed through a series of demanding rounds of competition.
The UK Economics Olympiad is a prestigious competition for students aged 14 to 19, designed to test participants’ knowledge of theoretical economics, financial literacy and practical business case studies. The competition also serves as the selection process for the UK’s team for the International Economics Olympiad (IEO).
Following three rounds of assessment at the national final, Matthew (FH4) was selected as one of just five students who will represent the United Kingdom at the IEO in Athens this August.
Matthew’s selection is a great accomplishment and reflects the dedication and talent demonstrated by all four finalists. The School wishes Matthew the very best as he prepares to compete on the international stage in Greece.
