Peter’s Crusade
On Monday the Lower Sixth A Level students delighted their audience in the EM Forster Studio with their devised twenty-minute play, Peter’s Crusade – a comedic reimagining of Peter the Hermit and the First Crusade of 1096. The anarchic spirit was inspired by Kneehigh, an innovative theatre company founded by Mike Shepherd and Emma Rice in 1980.
Physical comedy, with trademark use of music and song contributed to the high-octane performance. Surrealism reigned throughout, beginning with God communicating through a shower hose and included the use of a bath as a boat. Quick costume and accent changes enabled the cast to chart the trials and tribulations each side’s experience – described by the boys as, “Blending live music, ensemble storytelling, direct address, movement, and dark comedy, the production is of a medieval story, dragged kicking and shouting into the present”.
Congratulations to Huw (OH4), Monty (HS4) and Sam (HS4) for a hilarious show – artfully conceived and superbly performed!
