Leavers’ Concert

This year’s Leavers’ Concert took place in Big School on Friday evening. The Upper Sixth Music Scholars showcased their individual talents, ably supported by the Chamber Orchestra.

The programme commenced with Jaden’s (PS5) performance of Bach’s Violin Concerto in A minor; followed by Angus (SC5), who played Romance for Viola and Orchestra, Op.85 by Bruch.

Saxophone solos by Alfie (WW5), Tristan (WW5), Dylan (JH5) followed. The boys showed the instrument’s versatility across three very different pieces: beginning with the rich Romantic lyricism of Glazunov’s Saxophone Concerto, Op.109; followed by the sweeping, mournful melody of The Old Castle from Pictures at an Exhibition (Mussorgsky) contrasting with Milhaud’s vibrant, jazzy Scaramouche Op.165.

The programme ended with Head of School Music, Sebastian’s (MH5) performance of Chopin’s Piano Concerto No.2 in F minor, Op.21 which enabled the piano, and Seb, to shine against the sympathetic and stylish support from the orchestra.

The boys received a justly deserved standing ovation, acknowledging not only their performances but the joy that they have brought to audiences and the contribution they have made to Tonbridge School Music during their time here.

We look forward to welcoming the boys back as Old Tonbridgians, either to perform in our Allan Bunney Concert series, or to enjoy performances by those who follow them, as demonstrated by last year’s Head of School Music, Debare (FH 23-25), who was part of Friday’s audience.
