Students complete Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Expeditions
A group of Lower Sixth students travelled to the Lake District for their qualifying expedition, taking on several of Alfred Wainwright’s iconic fells over four days. Beginning in Grasmere, the route led them towards Honister Slate Mine and Green Gable before continuing over Grassmoor and Grisedale Pike, finishing in Threlkeld.
The expedition tested the students in a wide range of conditions. Throughout the journey, the students worked exceptionally well in their teams alongside girls from Walthamstow Hall. There was even time to recite a little Wordsworth, providing a fitting tribute to the landscape that inspired the famous poet.
At the same time, Third Year and Lower Sixth students taking part in the Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Practice and Assessed Paddlesport expeditions completed an outstanding 100-mile canoe journey along the River Severn. Travelling from Welshpool in Wales to Ironbridge over four days.
The paddle sport expedition presented a demanding combination of long days on the water, weirs, several Grade 2 rapids and exceptionally warm weather.
