Oscar (OH5) wins Best Actor at Hispanic Theatre Festival
Tonbridge students enjoyed further success at the XIV Hispanic Theatre Festival in London, with Oscar (OH5) winning the Best Actor award for his portrayal of Justina in El cianuro… ¿sólo o con leche? by Juan José Alonso Millán.
The original adaptation saw Laura and her clumsy, highly strung daughter, Justina, attempt to poison her grandfather by adding cyanide to his afternoon coffee. Their plan quickly descended into chaos following the unexpected arrival of their cousin Enrique and the eccentric Inspector Rodríguez, culminating in a frantic mix-up over which coffee cup contained the poison.
Oscar’s winning performance earned him a scholarship for a week’s stay in Salamanca at the Spanish Academy Tía Tula. The Tonbridge cast also included Robert (SC5), Andrew (SC4), Jack (SH4) and Luke (SH4), with the group receiving high praise from other schools taking part.
This marked our sixth appearance at the festival, continuing an impressive record that includes awards for Best Spoken Spanish Group, two Best Original Play titles and two Best Supporting Actor awards.
