Resources and Expertise
The School works with local schools in a variety of ways sharing our resources and expertise. Schools are invited to careers evenings, study days, workshops and academic competitions across a range of academic and creative department.
Tonbridge Science Conference
Hosted by the science department the event brings over 100 Sixth Formers together in the Barton Science Centre from local state and independent schools. Students from overseas also join the event, either virtually or in person, with schools from USA and Japan having joined the conference in previous years. With keynote speakers to bookend the day, the focus for the conference is on giving students the opportunity to showcase any projects or investigations they have conducted in super-curricular activities during this academic year. Students provide short presentations at the conference, with ample time made available for questions and discussions about their work.
Previous projects have ranged from topics such as ‘Quantum entanglement’ to the question ‘Can chronic stress cause cancer?’. All topics are welcome, covering any area of science, with the aim of providing a selection of talks and posters that allow visitors to tailor the day to suit their interests.
Shakespeare Study Day
The English department run an annual A-level study day. This is attended by numerous schools and their staff and includes talks from external renowned speakers as well as teachers from Tonbridge and our partner schools. Students work together in breakout sessions to share and stretch their knowledge.
