Hill Side was founded in 1875 in response to the rapid expansion of the School.
Hill Side boys soon appreciate the benefits of their surroundings, which include a tennis court, a full size football pitch called The Orchard and an extensive garden. First Years share double study bedrooms and then move into single rooms from the Second Year onwards.
Notable old boys include the historian and educationalist Sir Anthony Seldon, Air Chief Marshal Sandy Wilson, and Tom Chaplin and Tim Rice-Oxley from the band Keane.

About the Housemaster
Patrick North read Philosophy, Politics & Economics at Magdalen College, Oxford. He worked in banking and finance in London, Hong Kong and Singapore for 12 years, before completing his PGCE at London University in 2005. Patrick was Deputy Head of Sixth Form at a large comprehensive school in London before coming to Tonbridge in 2012. He led the large and successful Social Science department before taking up his appointment at Hill Side. He is a climbing instructor and supervises Duke of Edinburgh expeditions for the school. He is married to Maggie, also a teacher, and they have two children, Sebastian and Charlotte.
About the Matron
Wendy Challis joined Hill Side in 2010, having previously worked for the Bridge Trust, a Tonbridge based charity supporting the homeless, for a number of years. Whether on the touchline of a sports match, at a school concert or just around Hill Side, Wendy is always to be seen chatting to the boys who enjoy her cheerful company and reflective advice. She is a vital source of help and advice to parents, and like all the Matrons is on speed dial for most. In her spare time, she can be found walking her dog or preparing for her next pub quiz.
