Living Our House system Welldon House

Welldon House

Tonbridge was founded for local day boys, and Welldon traces its roots to the foundation of the School in 1553.

Essential information

Housemaster: Sumair Hussain

Email: sumair.hussain@tonbridge-school.org

Phone: 01732 353054

Address: 49 London Road, Tonbridge, TN10 3AD

House Colours: Dark blue and light blue

Welldon was originally the House attended by day boys who lived close enough to go home for lunch and it is proud to count the novelist E.M. Forster and the international cricketer Zak Crawley as some of its alumni.

The Georgian House sits at the heart of the School campus: the boys enjoy their own football pitch and are proud of the ‘House Family’ system, whereby all boys are supported and mentored by older students.

Sumair Hussain

About the Housemaster

Sumair Hussain graduated from the University of Portsmouth with a degree in Drama and Performance. He began his teaching career in Tunbridge Wells while completing a Master’s in education before becoming Head of Department. He later moved to Sussex, where he continued as Head of Drama and took on pastoral responsibilities as an Assistant Housemaster and subsequently a Housemaster.

In September 2023, Sumair joined Tonbridge School as Head of Academic Drama. He is currently undertaking a PhD in Education, focusing on the role of creativity in the classroom, with a particular interest in how it can be assessed.

Sumair lives with his wife, Sophie, a Senior Design Manager at a London-based architectural consultancy, and their daughter, Naija.
