British Schoolboys’ International Races in Wengen
Eleven boys represented Tonbridge School at the British Schoolboys’ Downhill ski races held this week in Wengen, Switzerland, one of the most prestigious venues in international alpine skiing.
The competition began on Monday evening with a parallel slalom event, in which teams of four raced head to head. The Tonbridge A team delivered a strong performance, narrowly missing out on a place in the final after a closely fought semi-final defeat to Wellington A.
Racing continued on Tuesday with the Giant Slalom, set on the top third of the world-famous Lauberhorn run. Known as the longest downhill course on the international circuit, the Lauberhorn provided a challenging and memorable setting for the event.
Standout performances came from Hamish (OH5), who claimed a silver medal in the Under-21 category. He went on to add two further silver medals in the slalom events on the final day of racing, as well as a gold medal in the combined disciplines. Ferdi (JH4) also enjoyed success, winning a bronze medal in the Under-18 slalom.
In total, the team returned home with five medals, marking a successful week of competition against strong international opposition.
