Tonbridge hosts the Festival de Théâtre Francophone
For its 11th edition, and the first ever to be hosted at Tonbridge, the French drama competition, the Festival de Théâtre Francophone, welcomed thirteen schools to perform a diverse range of dramatic extracts in French.
The programme featured works spanning several centuries, from classical plays by Racine and Molière to more contemporary pieces, as well as adaptations from film.
Head of French, Jean Patrick Vieu, praised the performances, noting that Tonbridge’s own Lower Sixth linguists were strong contenders. Their atmospheric performance of L’homme qui a vu le diable was particularly well received.
The award for Best Play, however, went to Eton College for their lively rendition of Un bain de ménage.
Reflecting on the evening, Jean Patrick said: “The theatre was filled with an unmistakable buzz throughout the evening, and we very much hope this marks the beginning of many future editions at the School.”
