International Week at Tonbridge
Written by Eto (Sc5) and Jaden (CH5)
At a time of increasing polarisation in the UK, we believe it is more important than ever to celebrate our School’s diverse community. This was the inspiration behind International Week.
There were many highlights throughout the week, including tuk-tuk interviews, flag-painting sessions, and impressive guest speakers. However, the standout moment was the non-uniform day, where boys wore everything from traditional Pakistani dress to Polish football jerseys.
One of the most wholesome parts was the numerous interviews in which students and teachers shared their cultural backgrounds, as well as what they had learned about their peers. This was the goal of International Week, and already we can feel a stronger sense of unity within the community.
We believe International Week was a great success – not because of engagement with individual events, the interview with Maro Itoje, or even the £2,100+ raised for Child Action Lanka, but because of the lasting impact it has made on our community.
A special thanks goes to Jayden (PS3), Ben (OH3), Alexander (FH3), and Miss Levett for their work in recording the events throughout the week. We also want to thank the whole Tonbridge community for their support and efforts in making International Week a success – there should be some social media content rounding up the week coming soon…
