Sailing success in preparation for 2025 World Championships

The School’s RS Feva Team spent the first half of 2024 intensively training for a highly competitive campaign. This preparation paid off as the team, who operate a two-person sailing dinghy, went on to compete successfully in several prestigious events, including Open Meetings, National Championships and Itchenor Schools’ Week, leading up to the World Championships held in Holland at the end of July.

Tonbridge sailors demonstrated exceptional strength and determination throughout the campaign in diverse conditions. A standout moment came during the final day of the Nationals, where winds exceeded 25 knots. Despite the challenging weather, the School’s sailors thrived, showcasing their skill and resilience. William and Kai delivered an impressive performance, securing a top 20 finish out of more than 100 boats.

At the World Championships in Holland, the team faced unusually warm and calm conditions, with temperatures soaring above 30 degrees. The opening ceremony was a memorable highlight, as the boys quickly made international friends, exchanged team kits and forged lasting connections. All sailors qualified in the bronze fleet, with the top boat, manned by Novi pair Emmanuel and Zac, finishing in a commendable 8th place. The event was a fantastic experience for the team and one that will undoubtedly be remembered.

Looking ahead, trials will be held during the Michaelmas Term to select twelve Novi and Second Year boys to represent the School and the UK at the 2025 World Championships. The event will be held at the spectacular Lac de Bourget in France at the end of July.
