Tonbridge Officers Honoured with Coronation Medals

Tonbridge School is proud to celebrate the achievements of eight of its commissioned officers, who have been awarded the prestigious Coronation Medal in recognition of their dedicated service.

The medals were presented to Sqn Ldr S. Hargreaves, Sqn Ldr T. Blackwell, Capt A. Davison, Lt T. Bohanan, Lt J. Gent, Lt J. Parsons, Flt Lt C. Powell and Maj M. Brennan. This honour is reserved for commissioned officers and servicemen in the Armed Forces and Cadet Forces, as well as members of the emergency services, who have completed at least five years’ service at the time of the Coronation. It honours the longstanding tradition of close ties between the Monarchy and those in uniform, a custom that dates back to 1603.

The Coronation Medal features an image of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, signifying the unique bond between the Armed Forces and the Monarch, reaffirming the officers’ service and dedication to the newly crowned Monarch.

Stefan Hargreaves, Contingent Commander, said “As holders of the King’s Commission, we’re honoured to be receiving the Coronation Medal today, which affirms our role within the greater family of the Armed Forces. We are proud of the part that we play, providing all boys at Tonbridge with the opportunity to gain unique skills and enjoy unmatched opportunities within a uniformed setting: shooting and learning infantry tactics, first aid, sailing, powerboating and paddlesport, flying and gliding, and of course excellence in leadership. I am so proud of everything that our officers offer to our cadets, going above and beyond every week, every camp and more besides, and this medal is the rightful recognition of everything that they do so well.”
