Senior Biology Olympiad medals

Tonbridge boys were awarded six medals in the Senior Biology Olympiad, a rigorous examination for students in the final year of their A-Level studies.
Run by the Royal Society of Biology, the Olympiad covers a diverse range of topics and poses students challenging questions, often based on unfamiliar situations. The questions range from human physiology, botany and genetics to enzyme kinetics and the functions of ecosystems.
Gold medals were awarded to Matthew Hayes (OH5) and William Miller (MH5). Luke Moore (WH4) received a silver medal, while bronze medals went to Jack Atherton (MH5), Will Grant (PS5) and Navindu Ranasinghe (OH4). Both Luke and Navindu took the test a year in advance.
Hugh Grant, Head of Biology, said: “The boys were truly tested in terms of problem solving, recall and resilience. They performed extremely well despite being out of their comfort zone, and that was very pleasing to see.
“Our Lower Sixth boys taking the test deserve a special mention – there will have been topics in there that they have not heard of before, but they stuck it out and tested themselves. Overall these were some very fine results.”
