Junior Play sees Julius Caesar step into the world of Eighties finance

Julius Caesar, the Junior Play, was performed in the week before half-term, to great acclaim from parents, staff and students.

With a cast of 26, and running at just under an hour, this was a short, slick and well-acted production that showcased the talents of the Lower years.

The play, performed in the School’s EM Forster Theatre, was set in the 1980s world of corporate finance, where jealous conspirators convince Caesar’s friend Brutus to join their assassination plot against the soon-to-be-appointed CEO of Rome Ltd. To stop Caesar from gaining too much power, Brutus and the conspirators kill him on the Ides of March.

Director Kalungi Ssebandeke, Tonbridge’s Drama Graduate Assistant, said: “From stage management to show operation, the boys led from the front. The experience gave them a sense of purpose and highlighted the power of commitment and teamwork.

“Thank you to everyone who came to watch, and special thanks must go to all those parents and staff who supported the boys during the rehearsal process.”

Comments posted on the School’s Instagram page, following the production, included: “This performance was simply amazing. The boys all performed excellently.” Another said: “It was brilliant.”
