Tonbridge students triumph at London Hispanic Theatre Festival
Tonbridge Sixth Formers won a prize for their performance at the London Hispanic Theatre Festival.
Eight boys performed, in Spanish, Don Sabino Curatraumas by José Cerdena, a ten-minute farcical piece in which an array of eccentric characters visit the consulting room of a psychologist who specialises in traumas.
The event took place at the Performing Arts Centre, North London Collegiate School, just before October half-term, with the boys receiving the award for Best Unique Group Performance.
Mar Ponce Galán, Head of Spanish and the group’s director, pictured above with the cast, said: “It was the first time we’ve competed in this competition. The boys thoroughly deserved their award, as they worked very hard to understand the cultural and linguistic jokes and to deliver them with the right intonation.
“The judges said that Don Sabino was the funniest play of the afternoon, and the audience was laughing all the time.”
Judges commented that the boys’ performance “has undoubtedly brought us the flavour of the Spanish tradition through music, poetry and political rivalry, in a satirical and amusing way”.
Congratulations to Johnnie, Ciarán, Henry, Virgile, Konstantin, Sachin, Milo and Giles.
