Tonbridge students’ moving performance wins award at London Hispanic Theatre Festival
Tonbridge Sixth Formers have won a prize for their impressive performance at the London Hispanic Theatre Festival.
Four boys delivered a ten-minute performance, in Spanish, of the play Malditos 16 (Damned 16) by the renowned writer Nando López.
Their short production was emotionally charged, delving into intricate themes of teenage emotions and angst.
The annual festival, now in its 11th year, took place at the Performing Arts Centre, North London Collegiate School on Thursday 12 October, with the boys winning the award for Best Original Performance.
Mar Ponce Galán, Head of Spanish and the group’s director, said: “It was our second participation in the competition, and for the second year in a row we have received a prestigious award. These young men have truly established Tonbridge’s reputation in the Theatre Festival and I am so proud of them. Their performance in this moving play was one of earnestness, respect and heartfelt dedication.
“The boys’ award was richly deserved, and I am delighted that they will carry this cherished memory with them from their final year at Tonbridge.”
The cast consisted of the Upper Sixth’s Johnnie Averdieck (WW5), Virgile Patricot (WW5), Ciarán Tansley (CH5) and Giles Oliver (SH5).
