Old Tonbridgian completes remarkable run
Old Tonbridgian (OT) Freddie Skarbek (MH 20-25) recently completed an extraordinary endurance challenge, running the length of Britain from Land’s End to John O’Groats in just 37 days.
Covering more than 1,600 kilometres Freddie averaged more than 45 kilometres a day, well beyond marathon distance, as he made his way from the south-western tip of England to the northernmost point of mainland Scotland.
Undertaken largely as a solo effort, Freddie carried his equipment in a small backpack and navigated the demanding route day by day. His challenge has already raised more than £17,000 for Young Lives vs Cancer, supporting children and young people facing cancer and their families.
Along the way, Freddie was joined by a network of supporters. No fewer than 15 OTs joined sections of the route, running or cycling alongside him for stages of the journey. Their support provided encouragement during a challenge that required remarkable resilience and determination.
Freddie’s former Housemaster Stefan Hargreaves said “I’m genuinely in awe of Freddie’s fantastic achievement. We’re so proud of Freddie for setting himself this incredible challenge and for seeing it through to the end, even finishing a few days early. We’re also really grateful to everyone who supported him along the way. Freddie has raised an amazing sum of money for a brilliant cause – we couldn’t be more delighted for him”.
Freddie’s run has drawn strong support from the Tonbridge community and beyond, with donations continuing to come in for his chosen charity. If you would like to donate please follow the link.
On behalf of everyone at Tonbridge, congratulations and well done, Freddie, on an outstanding achievement.
