Tonbridge U14s retain QE Barnet Plate in competition’s 50th year
Tonbridge Under-14s began their season in impressive fashion by lifting the QE Barnet Plate in the competition’s landmark 50th year.
The team opened the tournament strongly in the group stages, recording convincing wins over Abingdon and Uppingham to progress with confidence. However, a below-par performance against Hitchin Grammar halted their early momentum and saw Tonbridge move into the Plate competition.
Refocusing quickly, the side showed their quality in the knockout rounds. A comfortable victory over Felsted in the quarter-final set the tone, before another assured display saw them overcome Whitgift in the semi-final.
The final against Gordon’s proved to be the perfect response to their earlier setback. Tonbridge produced a composed and energetic performance to secure the win and reclaim the QE Barnet Plate.
The success marks a promising start to the season for the U14s as they continue their preparations for the upcoming Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens tournament.
