A year of progress and achievement for the Novi Hockey Team
The progression of the U14A hockey team throughout this season has been nothing short of remarkable. This promising group of young athletes, consisting of many boys who are new to the sport or have had little experience compared to their rivals, have shown tremendous dedication and skill. The team’s camaraderie and performance are both a testament to themselves and the coaching of James Storey-Mason, Louis Tipper and Alex Salmon.
Starting in the Kent Cup, the boys competed against twelve other teams in a highly competitive tournament at Holcombe Hockey Club. The campaign was defined by a series of thrilling matches, where the boys reached the final and despite a commendable performance, fell short in a shootout.
Progressing to the regional finals, the team continued to deliver dominant performances with victories against several high-calibre hockey schools, before their match against the unbeaten Simon Langton Grammar School. The team rose to the occasion, attaining an emphatic 5-0 victory, claiming the prestigious Southeast Regional title.
Having earned a place in the Nationals, the boys saw strong victories against Dauntsey’s School, King Edward’s Witley School, and Hitchin Boys School, achieving esteemed silver medals.
Master of Hockey, Kieron Walsh said, “The Novi have made remarkable strides this year, delivering strong performances in the Kent Cup, winning the South East Area Finals, and finishing second at the National Finals. Their silver-medal finish in the national Hockey Championship is superb, but more importantly, it highlights the immense potential within this group.”
