Sixth Form at Tonbridge: our Third Years share what they’re looking forward to most
1. What’s been the highlight of your time so far at Tonbridge?
Winning House Music 2024 for Oakeshott. I was part of the acoustic piece playing the harp, and it was extremely satisfying to win, as this competition is held so highly in Tonbridge. It was especially meaningful for me as I follow in my brothers’ footsteps, and they also won the competition.
2. What subjects are you choosing for A-level and why?
I’m going to be studying Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Computer Science. At university I will definitely be studying a STEM subject, and this combination really suits me for my application, I am also excited study these subjects in greater depth because of my interest in these fields.
3. Do you know what you would like to do after School?
Some form of engineering, but I am undecided as I wait to see which of my A-Levels I enjoy the most. Oxford or Cambridge universities are my ideal destinations, but I need to be more certain about the subject before I can make a more informed decision.
4. What are you looking forward to most about Sixth Form?
A great perk of being a Sixth Former is the Chan Café – the brownies there are legendary!
1. What’s been the highlight of your time so far at Tonbridge?
It’s difficult to pin-point just one highlight of my time at Tonbridge as my experiences have been so diverse and unique, from helping teach French to primary school children at Slade primary with Tonbridge Community Action (TCA), to being part of a boarding school.
However, the most memorable moment for me was meeting the Rackets Coach, Mr Makey, for the first time and experiencing the quirky and lively nature of the game and the Club as a novi.
2. What subjects are you choosing for A-level and why?
My A-level choices are French, Latin, Chemistry and Maths. I chose these subjects because I found them interesting and the teachers engaging at GCSE, so I’m excited to explore them further and at a higher level.
3. Do you know what you would like to do after School?
I’m still undecided, however, I feel my A-level choices will give me the opportunity to explore a wide range of options. I don’t feel restricted to a single pathway and I think that’s a significant benefit.
This also means that I am undecided about which university I would like to attend, however, I will definitely be aiming for a Russell Group university – and in particular Oxbridge – in order to push my education as far as possible.
4. What are you looking forward to most about Sixth Form?
I’m looking forward to several things: the chance to study the subjects that really interest me; the chance to push myself in sport – given that the level and intensity across all sports increases dramatically in Sixth Form; and finally, I’m looking forward to the further opportunities to develop relationships within the school, whether that be with friends or teachers – especially as class sizes diminish – allowing for closer relationships between teachers and pupils.
1. What’s been the highlight of your time so far at Tonbridge?
The music department has been absolutely fantastic. In particular, the concerts they organize have been the highlights of my time here. From playing Scheherazade in the symphony orchestra to Rachmaninoff in a piano evening, these concerts have developed not only my ability as a musician but also my confidence as a person.
2. What subjects are you choosing for A-level?
For A-levels, I will be taking Maths, Further Maths, and History, along with an economics-focused EPQ. These choices reflect my dream of working in finance and my deep interest in history. In my fourth subject slot, I will be working toward the HSK 5 qualification, advancing my goal of becoming fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
3. Do you know what you would like to do after School?
I hope to secure a degree apprenticeship at a top firm in London or study economics at Oxbridge.
4. What are you looking forward to most about Sixth Form?
The focus on individual study that comes with Sixth Form. While it brings more responsibility, it offers an opportunity to demonstrate my abilities as a student and explore each subject in greater depth.
1. What’s been the highlight of your time so far at Tonbridge?
Although I have made numerous memories at Tonbridge so far – namely, trips to Berlin and Madrid, as well as the enriching year I have spent with the Scott’s Project during Wednesday Afternoon Activities – I think my highlight would have to be sports-related, notably the rugby team’s win against Wellington in the U15s season.
2. What subjects are you choosing for A-level and why?
English Literature, History, French and Latin as I have a strong interest in Languages and Literature. Equally, I believe that these subjects align with my future aspiration of pursuing a career in Law, particularly due to the analytical and linguistic skills that I am sure to develop with these subjects throughout sixth form.
3. Do you know what you would like to do after School?
I am interested in pursuing a degree in English or Law. In terms of destination, I am eager to explore my options in both the UK and USA, so I’m going on the US Universities trip later this year.
4. What are you looking forward to most about Sixth Form?
Specialising in subjects I am passionate about and to an intellectually rewarding time.
I am also looking forward to the greater individual responsibility. Learning invaluable skills like time management and self-accountability will help me greatly in life beyond Tonbridge and in higher education.
