Four schools went head-to-head in Tonbridge’s inaugural Enterprise Day
We welcomed A Level Business students from The Skinners’ School, The Skinners’ Academy Hackney, and The Marsh Academy to go head-to-head with Tonbridge Business students in an immersive full-day business simulation run by Enterprise Skills.
The teams of four were challenged to run a fictitious mobile phone shop, requiring them to consider and respond to changes in the market regarding pricing, marketing, competitor behaviours and staff motivation. The consequences of each decision affected the course of the game and the teams’ positions on the leaderboard.
Harry Ejje (CH4) said, “It was good fun and interesting to see the impacts of our decisions further down the line. We were too reactive in the 3rd quarter and overspent on costs, particularly on wages as we tried to improve motivate the staff to improve customer service. Whilst our revenue wasn’t too bad, we panicked and spent too much. The teams that did better invested more steadily from the 1st quarter.
Harry Bull (WW4) added, “We had a good team dynamic and worked well together, but the exercise illustrated the complexities of running a business.”
Head of Social Science, Sam Cleary concluded, “This was the first time we have run this event at Tonbridge and it was a valuable learning experience for the students to see the practical application of the principles they have been learning about this term.”
