Top results at the RS Feva National Championships
Before half term, our sailors travelled to Plas Heli in North Wales to compete in the RS Feva National Championships. With over 100 boats entered from schools and clubs across the country, the competition was fierce. Nevertheless, our boys arrived well prepared, having trained consistently since the start of January.
The opening day featured four demanding back-to-back races over five hours on short, choppy waters. These conditions were unfamiliar to many of the boys, but they adapted well and demonstrated great resilience.
The following days brought a different challenge, with very light and inconsistent winds. The venue’s proximity to Snowdonia often creates difficult sailing conditions, testing competitors’ patience and concentration.
On the final day, it initially appeared that the fleet would face another day of hot weather and gentle breezes. However, shortly after midday, the wind finally filled in, gusting to 15 knots and showcasing the venue at its best. Joseph (SH1) and Max (JH2) produced an outstanding performance, recording two second-place finishes during the day’s racing.
Our highest-placed Tonbridge crew was Mark (MH2) and Jeremy (JH1), who secured an impressive eighth place in the Silver Fleet.
Congratulations to all the boys who represented Tonbridge at the Championships so admirably in such challenging conditions.
