Teacher of French – Full time or Part time – The New Beacon

The New Beacon School is a leading day and boarding prep school for boys aged 2-13, with a co-educational nursery, renowned for its commitment to excellence in education, sport and the arts.

The School is seeking an enthusiastic and highly skilled Teacher of French to join our team from September 2026 on either a full time or part time basis

The successful candidate will deliver creative and engaging French lessons, have a commitment to maintaining high academic standards and the ability to inspire a love of languages in our pupils. The role will include preparing pupils for Common Entrance, Scholarship and Senior School entrance exams, ensuring that the School provides an outstanding provision in French across the age range. The capacity to offer an additional language would be advantageous.

French is introduced to boys from Reception, with an increasing focus as they progress through the School. The curriculum emphasises the four essential language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. From the early stages, boys are encouraged to develop their pronunciation and fluency, with lessons tailored to their abilities. Listening and responding in the target language are central to the teaching approach, with support provided in English to ensure clear understanding. Written French plays a crucial role in reinforcing grammar and vocabulary, evolving from simple exercises to free expression as boys expand their vocabulary and grasp of grammatical structures.

As boys enter the Middle and Senior School, they engage with more advanced materials and regular aural sessions to build their confidence and competence. Preparation for Year 8 assessments and Senior School entry exams incorporates authentic texts and past papers. The results are a testament to the School’s high standards, with many boys excelling at Scholarship level and achieving top awards such as the Tonbridge Knightley Scholarship for Languages. By the time boys leave, most are well-prepared to join the highest sets for French at their next school, equipped with strong language skills and a solid foundation in modern languages.

Applications should be received by 10am on Friday 12 June 2026.

We reserve the right to interview and appoint before the closing date, therefore early applications are encouraged.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. A DBS Disclosure is required to Enhanced Level.
